Volume 4, Number 4
Hello, Friends!
By now many of you should have received your Stallion Edition of Better Horses Network. If not, go online to subscribe at www.betterhorsesnetwork.com. Monday I start off in full swing with our 2008 Horse Owner Workshops. We plan to be in a different market each night this week, starting off in Leavenworth on Monday night. Go to our calendar on this newsletter or our website and get all of the details. I keep hoping that we will soon be in a spring-weather trend -- this cold weather is getting old!
Have you checked out www.omoleneuniversity.com yet? What a neat educational website. This website gives you a chance to increase your equine knowledge and earn some neat stuff!
We are really working on a great weekend surrounding the American Royal’s ProRodeo and Praire Circuit Finals on Oct.23 through 25th. We have a great group working on a huge Purina Mega HOW Clinic/Open Horse Show partnering up with the local Extension folks and 4-H. Plans right now are to have some select Open Classes open to all breeds along with some sanctioned special 4-H classes. We do know that with the 4-H Sanctioned Classes, two of the requirements will be for the 4-H'er to attend either a Purina HOW Event or Horse Health Fair along with attending www.omoleneuniversity.com Right now this event is being called the American Royal/Purina Mills/Better Horses Radio UNBELIEVABLE Horse Happening. Along with the classes, we plan to have some clinicians and veterinarians on hand giving mini-clinics. With this event riding the coat-tails of the Prairie Circuit Finals Weekend, we also plan to have a good trade show that weekend. Tentatively, we have Craig Cameron coming in for a clinic along with judging the Youth Extreme Ranch Trail Class to be held in Hale Arena. The American Royal has really stepped up with bringing on and supporting the PRCA Prairie Circuit Finals. You need to keep watching for more details coming up involving this great weekend.
I plan to be at Equifest in Wichita , Feb.29 through March 2. If you make it down, make sure you stop by the Purina booth and say hello. On March 7, 8, & 9 we plan to take Better Horses Network on the road to HorseFest in Springfield, MO. Stop by and say hello. Also, don’t forget the Extreme Cowboy Race is bringing its TV crew to the Saddle & Sirloin Club, March 25 & 26th. The times are from approx. 9:00 am until 3:00 pm each day and tickets are $15.00/day. For more information, give Bill Hull a call at (913) 208-6381.
Our son, Luke, has just left for his second tour with the Marines in Iraq. I ask you to keep him along with all of our service men and women in your prayers. You let me know if I can be of help in any way. I hope to see you soon!
Happy Trails!

Horse Management Tip
Feeding Horses -- Stay On Top Of It!
With us being in a day with record high grain prices and no relief in sight,
it is important more than ever to feed as efficiently as possible. Today there
is no such thing as a cheap feed. Today, more than ever, Purina’s value-added
products prove out to be the best buy.
When you look at calories/lb along with quality protein and a balanced ration,
it is not what it costs per bag or per ton, but what it costs per head per
day. When you figure local oats at 1100 calories per lb. and Purina’s
Strategy® at 1500 calories per lb., it is a fact from calories alone
you can feed a 1/3 less with Strategy®.
Make sure you evaluate the total nutrient value of a feed which includes
calories, quality and quantity of protein, and the vitamin mineral package.
Basically, it all boils down to you get what you pay for.

Horsey Treat Recipe
For your favorite horse, here's a very special winter muffin treat:
Winter Horse Muffins
Ingredients:
3/4 cup flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup bran
1/2 cup raisins (optional)
1 egg
1/2 cup milk
1/3 cup molasses
1/4 cup oil
Sift together first four ingredients into bowl. Stir in raisins (if used).
Measure milk and beat in egg. Add oil and molasses to egg/milk. Mix
liquid into dry ingredients, stirring until just mixed. Fill paper lined
or greased cupcake or muffin tins 2/3 full and bake at 400oF for 30
minutes. Makes 12.
Makes a great winter treat or a special birthday treat!
Thoughts To Ponder
By Charley Green
Ambition
A friend of mine was told he had everything he needed to have the
life he wanted except . . . ambition, a plan and perseverance!
He got the cosmic 2x4 headache from that bit of revelation. He had the
whine and cheese part down pat; however, he hadn't embraced the fact it was up
to him to make his life work the way he wanted it to. My friend now
understands there comes a time when a person has got to quit reading, writing
and philosophizing and get to doing.
