March 3, 2008
Volume 4, Number 5

Hello, Friends!

I apologize for getting this to you a little late. Just as I thought that Spring and maybe a little drying out might be here, we get hit with rain and cold weather. I am getting sick of the mud! What was great was attending the 11th Annual Kansas Equifest in Wichita, KS.  It was really great to see everyone and to see the wonderful clinics. This coming weekend, stop by and see us at the Better Horses Network booth at Missouri’s HorseFest in Springfield. All the information is inside this edition in the calendar. Dawn and I will be taping our radio show at this event, and we will have an unbelievable time like always. Make sure you stop by the booth and see us.

We have some great Horse Owner Workshops coming up in the next couple of weeks. On Tuesday night, we will be down at Cottonwood Falls. Next week, we start off Tuesday, March 11th, with a Pasture Management Meeting at Y Bar H in Olathe. Then we are right back with a couple of Dale Myler Bits & Bitting HOW meetings on Wednesday, March 12th near Lawson, MO at Mellon Community Hall and Thursday, March 13th, in Topeka, KS at the Rocking V Ranch. All the information about these are in the calendar.

Don’t forget the Kansas City Extreme Cowboy Race will be held at the Saddle & Sirloin Club on March 25 & 26th. They will be televising this episode, and it will be a lot of fun to be there. Information is inside.

We have some great rides planned for this Spring. Make sure you get signed up for our Spring Dream Ride In The Flint Hills on May 2,3rd, & 4th. We are also getting a lot of interest in our First Annual “Old West Cowboy Days” Trail Ride at the Burkdoll Ranch near Bush City, Kansas. Bush City is located about 15 miles southeast of Garnett, KS.
E-Mail me or give me a call to get you more information about these rides.

If you want to go to a real neat website, check out www.omoleneuniversity.com. This is a fun and educational site that gives you an opportunity to earn free feed along with some neat wearables.

Make sure you check out www.betterhorsesnetwork.com and www.betterhorsesradio.com.   We really appreciate the listeners we are getting to our radio show. Isn’t this horse thing fun?!!!

Right now, we are looking at record high grain and feed prices and who knows how high it can get. Even with all the high prices, our Purina Premium Horse Feeds still figure your best value in feeding your horses. Give us a call if we can be of any help.

Thanks for all you do and look forward to seeing you this Spring!  J

Happy Trails!

Ernie

Horse Management Tip

Using Wood Pellet for Bedding
Ernie Rodina

Have you tried using the wood pellet for bedding? My experience is I have been able to extend my time between stripping stalls by as much as twice as long. I really notice in cleaning my three stalls every day that I only have to empty my wheel barrel once per day versus twice per day. I am getting 100% Pure Manure when picking the stalls! And I am not hiding any apples in the stall, as my older sons used to accuse me of!

I really like the Eagle Valley ABM bedding and would recommend it. One thing to remember is if it is 100% pine, you do not have to wet it.

Horsey Treat Recipe

Horse Oat Cookies for a Winter's Day

1 cup oatmeal
1 cup bran
1 cup water
1 tblsp. salt
2 tblsps. brown sugar
1/2 cup of molasses

Mix ingredients together, grease a sheet of foil, and place spoonfuls on foil.  Bake until hard on the outside.  Leave out to dry and cool.  Refrigerate any cookies that are not eaten promptly.  A delicious winter treat for your horse!

Thoughts To Ponder

Country Living

Many folks want the experience of living in the country.  However, after a bit of that living, they decide they also want the city services and conveniences.

First thing  you know, the country becomes mini suburbs -- and the very thing they wanted to get away from, they've brought along!
