Volume 2, Number 5
Hi Folks! Wow it has been a whirlwind of a week!
1. Attended 3 days of Equifest in Wichita with my voice gone. Equifest was great, and it was good to see everyone. I am on the downhill side of a sinus infection.
2. During Equifest, I was able to slip away for a day to watch our son, Luke run in the conference championship of indoor track for Emporia State. I was so proud to see him take 2nd in the 5000 meter and 6th in the 3000 meter. Not bad for a kid that just got back from Iraq in October. He is what you call a “Crop-Out Runner” I can guarantee he gets no help from me genetically!
3. We had 3 good days of clinics and demos with Craig Cameron in Lansing, KS, LaCygne, KS, and Sedalia, MO. What a treat it was to see Brad Lund and the AQHA Superhorse “With All Probability” at the clinic in LaCygne. Watch the calendar, Craig will be back in April.
4. We had a HOW meeting at Seven Oaks with Michael Richardson and Sherman Tegetmaier. We had a real enjoyable evening watching their clinics.
5. It was a good “Open House” at Arabian and ½ Arab trainer Larry Alcorn’s facility. It is a real plus getting them down in our area.
6. Waiting every day for our son, Nick and Daughter-in-law, Megan to give us
our first granddaughter, Emma.
Make sure you try to attend one of our HOW meetings this week with Dale Myler of Myler Bits. He did a great job last month, and I look forward to working with him again. The meetings are on the calendar, March 7th in Salisbury, MO, March 8th in Chillicothe, MO, and March 9th in Leavenworth, KS.
Next week, make sure to attend the HOW (Horse Owner's Workshop) on March 14 in Garden City, MO or on March 16th in Garnett, KS.
Decided I need to focus on our youngest son, Matthew a little bit more lately. After picking him up at school last week because he said he was sick, Connie, my wife mentioned to him as they were half way home that he did not look all that sick and feverish. He then told her that he wasn’t really sick but “Home Sick”. That was a new one.
We are excited to be on the Radio in two new markets. On Sunday mornings, 6:30 to 7:30, you can hear us on KFEQ 680am out of St.Joe, MO. and on Sunday mornings from 9:00-10:00, you can hear us out of Clinton, MO on KDKD FM radio.
Plan to join us at the end of the month for the “Dream Ride In The Gypsum
Hills”. On March 31, April 1 & 2 we will be riding on the Gant-Larson
Ranch near Medicine Lodge, KS. Call Lise Streit at 785-565-2626. See the

With Purina Feeds along with our Educational Events, Clinics, & the Radio Show . . . we want to take your “Equine Experience To A Higher Level”. Let us know what we can do to help.

Horse Feeding Tip
So many horse owners are unaware that they are actually training their horses
to have some pretty bad habits. These habits can include pushing, bumping,
nipping, pawing, chewing on equipment, and refusing to stand still. Way too
often, the horse owner will hand feed the horse a carrot or other treat with the
idea that it will help the horse to stop whatever he is doing. What the owner
has actually done is train the horse that bad behavior gets a reward. The owner
is teaching their horse to crowd and generally move into the owner’s space, thus
making hand feeding potentially very dangerous. Hand feeding will teach a horse
to have blatant disrespect for the owner when looking for their treat.
If you have a horse with any one of these bad habits, try putting his treat in his feeder before you put him away, then the treat won’t be associated with you and his bad habit. Hopefully, after some time, you and your horse will have a relationship that does not include all the problems that hand feeding causes.
Seven Oaks Ranch
Horsey Treat Recipe
For a special St. Patrick's Day treat for your favorite horse, try this recipe:
St. Patrick's Day No-Cook Snaps
4 cups Bran
4 cups Applesauce
Mix ingredients together. Batter should be doughy. Roll out with a rolling pin and cup shapes (a shamrock would be nice!)
with cookie cutters. Let dough dry and serve.
. . . a simple, easy-to-make St. Patty's Day delight!
