Volume 2, Number 9
Howdy, folks!
We just finished up 11 events in thirteen days! We had 9 Craig Cameron HOW events, and I want to thank all of you who came. He is really a lot of fun to have these clinics with. Our John Deere/Purina Horsepower Night was a huge success at the Saddle & Sirloin Club. Having Craig Cameron, Brad Lund, & Cindy Branham there was a huge hit!
We have three exciting HOW events coming up on May 9, 10, & 11 with Scott Dailey. He will be at Putnam Quarter Horses on Tuesday, JKC Ranch in Liberty on Wednesday, and Brent Wrights on Thursday. I am also excited to see the clinic at Brent’s with Todd Wright that night. Make sure you see the calendar for all the details of these events along with others scheduled. You really need to come out to one or all of these events.
Congratulations goes to JD Holland! Brad Lund! & Jim Holland! They really cleaned up at the roping futurity recently held in Texas. JD ended up winning a couple of classes! We have a tremendous team in the area.
Make sure you tune in to one of our weekly radio shows and e-mail us with topics and your local news you would like us to cover. Also, let Dawn and I know what you think of the show. If we don’t hear anything, we start getting a complex! Don’t forget if you e-mail us with your “Unbelievable Of The Week” and we choose it to use on the radio, you might win a prize.
It is so great and an honor to have Dave and Gale Mattern from www.barrelhorseworld.com and www.horsetrailerworld.com partnering up with us. I hear that they are launching another exciting website.
Many of you have asked for Vinecia Walker’s e-mail address. It is: vlwalker72@yahoo.com. It was great to have her and her aunt, Carrie, at the HOW meeting at the Saddle & Sirloin. We need to keep her and her family in our prayers and thoughts.
You folks are great and remember our mission is “To help you take your horse experience to a higher level”.
Take care and let us know what we can do to help.
Happy Trails!
Ernie

Horse Management Tip
Trail Riding Safety
Have you ever been on a trail ride with other riders when they get some distance
ahead of you, and your horse becomes an accident in motion? Some horses cannot
tolerate being left behind the group. They are herd animals and they want to be
with the herd. With some horses this behavior can be changed or at least
improved. However, this tip is for the riders who have either unwittingly or
carelessly moved too far in front of the poor rider who has been left behind to
deal with his panic horse alone.
On the trail, always be aware of what is going on around you, know where the
other riders are and be watchful if their horses are moving along in a quiet and
confident manner. Don’t let anyone get too far behind, circle around and keep
either in a group or a line. Try to put the horses that don’t like to be in the
back of the pack up front and let the followers bring up the rear. Your ride
should be enjoyable, but safe, and a horse that doesn’t like to be left can be a
real danger to the rider and himself.

Horsey Treat Recipe
Lone Ranger Horse Cookies
Ingredients:
1 cup sweet feed
2 cups bran
1 cup flax seed
4 large carrots, shredded
1 cup molasses
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 cup applesauce
Preheat oven to 300o F. Mix molasses, brown sugar, carrots and
applesauce in one bowl. In another bowl, mix the dry ingredients.
Slowly combine the molasses mixture with the dry ingredients. Add only
enough molasses mixture to form a thick dough (add more bran if necessary).
Line cookie sheet with aluminum foil. Using a tablespoon, drop batter onto
cookie sheet and flatten slightly to form portions about the size of a silver
dollar. Bake at 300o for about 1 hour. Flip and bake for
an additional 45 minutes until they are dried out. (Keep checking to make
sure they don't burn.)
Save for a special treat for that special horse of yours!
