5th Annual Holiday Open House – Nov 25

Join us for our 5th Annual Holiday Open House, Sunday, November 25th, 12-4 p.m. Refreshments, storewide savings, free gift wrapping and drawings! Roy Frey Western is your one stop western gift headquarters!

Thank you for a Great 55th Anniversary Sale!

Thanks to all our great customers who came out to shop and help celebrate 55 years of serving the western lifestyle! Our hats go off to Roy and Lucille Frey who 55 years ago started a western store in their garage because their daughter, Mary Lou, who was riding and rodeoing, couldn’t find good quality western wear and tack in this area. The store grew and Roy quit his day job as an auto body repairman and the rest is history. We are proud to continue the Frey’s dream of fulfilling the western lifestyle needs of cowboys, cowgirls and cowkids, with a friendly smile and great service.

Congratulations to Mike Killion from Silver Lake who won the drawing for a free pair of Ariat boots. Again, thanks to you, our special friends and customers, who make this all possible.

Extreme Cowboy National Championships

The Extreme Cowboy National Championships held at Saddle and Sirloin, KC, MO was the most exciting event I have ever seen! Thirty of the top competitors from Washington, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Louisiana, Texas, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky and Mississippi brought their horses, pony, mules and their game!

The course designers stepped up the levels of difficulty throwing in a couple of new “boogers” each go-round. Something as simple as carrying a bucket of water and dumping it in a tin tank was pretty exciting! The tunnel was an added adventure as well. The riders got to stand on their horses and touch a tennis ball in a tree, shoot balloons, sort and rope cattle plus ride bareback!

Congratulations to our Kansas cowboys Adrian Vogel, Strong City for his 10th place finish and Lee Hart, Greely, for his 3rd place finish. Teryn Muensch, TX won the event. He also won Race 5 and the Saddle & Sirloin Race this past June. Wendy Stephens, LA was second. Wendy placed in Race 5 and won the Augusta, GA race on her Welsh stallion, Balaif. Jerry Diaz, the Mexican Charo – what a super entertainer and horseman, was 4th. Loren Basham, MO riding his very popular mule, Hoosier Daddy (guess which Toby Keith song they played when he was riding), won 5th.

Let me predict that Extreme Cowboy Races will be the “horse shows” of the future! Doesn’t matter what breed or discipline, anyone and any broke horse can compete and have fun! Plus, this is the most fun equine event for spectators to watch – you cheer for everyone and appreciate the great horses and horsemanship of each ride. What fun!

Ground Breaking for KSU Equine Education Center

What a glorious morning for an event some of us have been waiting many years to see come to fruition! Over 200 hundred people attended the ground breaking ceremony for the K-State Equine Education Center and R.D. and Joan Dale Hubbard Arena, Sat., Oct 27th. The facility will be located in the pasture just north of the Purebred Beef Barn (behind the Fire Station). There is a lot of enthusiasm for the center and equine programs (Academic, Equestrian Team, Rodeo and Rehab Therapy) at KSU. They still have a lot of work to do to get ready for phase two and all monetary contributions are welcome. Contact Aaron Hund, Director of Development, 785-532-7528 to discuss.

URA Rodeo Finals & Cody Bruner Benefit Rodeo Dec. 15th in Topeka

We were delighted to have the United Rodeo Association Finals come back to the Kansas ExpoCentre in Topeka this year. What a great event with the Military recognition night on Friday and “Tough Enough ToWear Pink” on Saturday night. Queen Lacey Glover did an outstanding job promoting the rodeo and we wish her all the luck in the world at the Miss Rodeo USA contest in OKC in January.

Unfortunately as you have probably heard on the news, Cody Bruner, bull rider from Warrensburg, MO, lost his life in the arena when the bull he successfully rode, critically injured him on the dismount. The Kansas ExpoCentre has donated the arena for a benefit rodeo on December 15th at 7 pm. Slack will be held that morning. Tickets will be sold at the door with all proceeds going to the Brunner family to help cover funeral expenses. Tickets will be either $5.00 or $6.00 per adult and half that amount for children. Land O'Lakes-Purina Feed has donated $500.00! The support everyone is showing is unbelievable! We are so proud of all of the supporters of the URA, Topeka and the surrounding communities.
