♥ Valentine’s Day Gifts
♥
Just arrived in time for that special Valentine’s Day gift are unique jewelry
pieces from Montana Silversmith, T&T Outpost, and Made by Mary. Come see the
beautiful new selection of watches, necklaces, earrings and bracelets in all
price ranges.
Perfume is a perfect gift. Cowgirls will be irresistible wearing Cowgirl Chic, Charmayne James, Morning Dew, Simply Pink, Cruel Girl, Yellow Rose, Wildfire, Indian Musk, Sunset, Honeysuckle and White Lily. Cowboys will smell great in PBR, Dakota, Red Canyon, Outlaw, Ninety Six Cinch, Cinch Classic or Steel Spur.
Montana Silversmith statues, western art and Painted Ponies make great gifts for the office or home. Don’t forget about a new pair of boots, wallets, purses, shirts, blouses, jeans, belts and hats – western apparel is always in style.
Instead of red – it’s ORANGE for V-Day. New from Equibrand are bright orange grooming, hay and accessory bags and orange leg and overreach boots. The new saddle pads colors are bright – turquoise, pink, lime and purple.
Cowboys & Cowgirls – Get a free V-Day card and gift wrap with your purchase. J
Hank Williams: Lost Highway
Roy Frey Western is happy to outfit the actors in authentic western wear for the
“Hank Williams: Lost Highway” – a play by Randal Myler and Mark Harelik. The
performances will be presented at the Helen Hocker Theater, Gage Park, Topeka,
Feb. 23-March 11. See the events section for dates, time, and cost.
TK Magazine Cover
Look for Roy Frey Western apparel to grace the cover of the spring edition of TK
Magazine featuring the “Young Guns of Topeka” – new businesses in the Topeka
area.
What’s Cooking At Roy Frey Western?
Reserve Sat., April 21, for a first time event at Roy Frey Western – a Chuck
Wagon - Ranch Cooking Class by chef Josh Hoy, Flying W Ranch, Clements, KS and
his backup crew, Gwen & Newt. Seminars on "Setting a Western Table" and "Western
Centerpieces" will be held with the cooking class at Roy Frey Western. Come see
the new dishware patterns, silverware, glasses, and table accessories and large
selection of cowboy cookbooks. This will be a fun event!
Straw Hats
I know it is cold out, but now is the time to get your new straw hat for summer!
That global warming thing will be here before we know it – the ground hog said
so! Our new straw hats are arriving daily! Listen for our big straw hat
promotion on 94.5 Country Radio coming soon – you can win a new Sunbody palm
leaf and Dewayne will custom shape it and brand it for you. Bring in your felt
hat for us to clean and shape anytime.
New Boots!!!
Just arrived are several new styles of Ariat boots for men & women. My favorite
is the “Legend Bramble” (www.ariat.com) – a square toe 4-row stitch pattern with
embroidery detail on the shaft and foot. The Bramble comes in Benedictine, black
or mocha. Cowboys are loving the new Heritage crepe Ariat in Benedictine, a
bright new orange color that really stands! We also have a new crepe lacer and
several new styles of work boots. Cowgirls and cowboys can now have a buckaroo
(tall top) with a walking heel – perfect for trail riding or cutting from both
Nocona and Ariat.
For the cowkids – a new shipment of Old West boots has just arrived. Round toe, real smooth ostrich crepe sole boots in black or cognac are in! This is a special purchase and will not be a stock boot, so get them for the show season now! This boot is a real deal at $60-$65! Cowgirls will love the new purple ostrich print square toe crepes. We have a huge selection of brown, black, and pink boots for kids.
What’s In Style for 2007
The Western Wear markets are over and we are seeing a lot of the same trends
continuing from last year. Jeans are starting to come back up on the waist.
Darker colors and lots of different pocket treatments for jeans this year.
Bright tropical colors are still in with orange being the main new color in
apparel and horse leg gear, saddle pads, and gear bags. The square toe is
everywhere in western boots! Big broad “duckbill” or the traditional smaller
square toes – it doesn’t matter – it's square everywhere! Bling is still in and
you will see it in different patterns and treatments on belts and apparel.
Purses have gone big! The hipster bags are fun and trendy. Bound edge or ribbon
edge hats are the new hot item in felt hats. Palm leaf straws are more popular
than ever. Retro western never goes out of style!

Anniversary and we are planning a fantastic event for all the horse lovers in
Kansas and surrounding states.
As Director of Volunteers, I am looking for a few great men and women to
assist me in the "behind-the-scenes" activities which are necessary for a
successful production.

work shift (see form), I will give you a free pass to one day of Equifest. In
addition, you will receive an Equifest T-shirt to be worn during your work
shift.
So, do you have any free time to spare? Do you have any friends (volunteers
must be 18 and older) who might want to join in the fun? If so, fill out the
form or email me with questions!! I look forward to hearing from you.
I will begin making volunteer assignments in mid-February. Once assignments
are made, a letter of instruction will be mailed to you after the 15th. If you
find that you are unable to fulfill your volunteer responsibilities, please

Wright Flight Fundraiser Trail Ride
On Memorial Day, Monday, May 28, 2007, a trail ride to benefit the Wright Flight
Program will be held at Eisenhower State Park, near Melvern, Kansas. This is the
first of what we hope to be an annual event. Riders are asked to pay a flat fee
and raise extra donations for the Program. A silent auction will also be
provided of items donated by businesses and friends. The silent auction not only
helps raise extra funds but provides entertainment to the riders to enjoy during
their meal.
If you are interested in donating items for our silent auction, we would be most
grateful. What ever you are able to donate is very much appreciated. (Ideas
include, saddle bags, treats, medical kits, halters, lead ropes, saddles, saddle
pads, bags of feed, muck carts, gift certificates, etc.)
The Wright Flight Program is a non-profit organization. Dewayne Burgess, a
retired Air Force fighter pilot, and owner of Roy Frey Western in Topeka, KS,
founded the original Kansas Chapter in 1996. He later encouraged friends in
Missouri to establish a chapter and currently serves as President of the
recently combined Kansas/Missouri Chapter.
This program is designed to use aviation interests to motivate students to
perform at a higher level in school. Students, grades 6-12, must meet two
requirements to be successful in the Wright Flight Program. First, each student
must score a minimum of 85% on an end of course exam for their aviation class.
Second, the student must set and achieve an academic or behavioral improvement
goal. The student’s chosen goal must be specified in a contract provided by
Wright Flight. This contract is then signed by the student, the student’s
parents, and the student’s teacher. When students meet all requirements, the
reward they earn is a flight with a volunteer pilot in a light aircraft. They
even have the opportunity to fly the plane under the watchful eye of a highly
experienced pilot! If the goals are not met, the student is welcome to continue
trying until they do in fact reach the sky. Please visit
www.wrightflight.org if
you would like more information on the Wright Flight Program.
Our goal for this trail ride is to help raise money to offset the fuel costs
accumulated by the pilots volunteering their time and aircraft to reward these
students. All of the resources that are to be used to organize this trail ride
will consist of 100% of donations from wonderful people like you. In addition,
100% of the funds received from these donations will go directly to the purpose
intended. I do hope you are able to support a worthy cause. Thank you in advance
for any and all support you can give this wonderful program.

“Round Up” Dried Beef Rollups
¼ lb dried beef (2 pkgs)
1 bar cream cheese (softened)
3T Rhine or white wine (optional)
1 dash Worcestershire sauce
½ tsp grated onion
1 T mayonnaise
2 tsp grated horseradish
Combine all ingredients except dried beef. Spread a thin layer of mixture on
each slice of dried beef, then roll up jelly roll style.
Great finger food that can be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated or frozen. Accompany with green
or black olives on the side.
Another version of this receipt is pickle rolls. Roll up a large pickle in a
slice of ham that has cream cheese spread on it. (I refrigerate
overnight so
they slice easier.) Slice into bit size pieces. Really cute and tasty!
Drop Off Point for KSU Equestrian Team Tack Donations
The KSU Equestrian Team is in need of good, clean, used or new English and
Western tack and grooming supplies. Especially needed are snaffle bits, leather
chin straps, headstalls, reins, saddles (for short people) and show clothes.
This fall when you clean out your tack room or horse trailer, think of the KSU
Equestrian Team and bring your items to Roy Frey Western. We will get them to
Head Coach, Teresa Slough. Your support with this tack drive is greatly
appreciated.
