Chuckwagon/Ranch Cooking Class – April
21
One of the great joys of the western lifestyle is cooking outdoors. A good meal
prepared around the campfire on a trail ride is the highlight of the evening.
Now you can learn some great tips on how to prepare such a meal on the trail or
for entertaining at home and some fun ideas on how to set a pretty table for
your next western lifestyles party.
Make plans to be at Roy Frey Western on Saturday, April 21st from 1 – 4 p.m. to enjoy the first chuck wagon/ranch cooking class conducted by Chef Josh Hoy, and his wonderful support staff, Gwen Hoy and Newt Dodge, from the Flying W Ranch, Cedar Point, KS, www.flying-w-ranch.net. They will set up their chuck wagon next to the store and start cooking – rain or shine! The meat will be provided by Farview Farms Meat Company, 6325 NW Topeka Ave., Topeka, KS, owned by Drew Forster and it is the best! (www.farviewfarmsmeat.com) Bring your lawn chairs and sample some of the best cooking in Kansas. Josh will have copies of his recipes, converted to be prepared in the kitchen, to hand out. I can personally testify as to how good their food is having been lucky enough to eat great meals and ride across their beautiful Flint Hill’s ranch on the Purina Dream Ride last fall!
Call 785-232-0579 to register for this fun event. Cost is a goodwill donation for the food. Check out the new dishware patterns, silverware, glasses, and table accessories and large selection of new cowboy cookbooks.

Trail Riding
Spring is wonderful for trail riding! We just got back from a week riding in
Palo Duro and Cap Rock Canyon, south of Amarillo, Texas. The scenery was
breathtaking. It was like we were in the old west movies riding through these
beautiful canyons. We highly recommend both of these areas to ride – great
primitive camping areas, nice horse pens and easy to follow trails.
I got to use my new Outback packable rain coat and I can personally vouch for it’s comfort, ease of use and that it will keep you dry. We have several colors – tan, navy, red in both the long and short lengths. I also love my western Stowaway pack. No movement – easy access to lots of storage places!

Wright Flight Fundraiser Trail Ride
On Memorial Day, Monday, May 28, 2007, a trail ride to benefit the Wright Flight
Program will be held at Eisenhower State Park, near Melvern, Kansas. This is the
first of what we hope to be an annual event. Riders are asked to pay a flat fee
and raise extra donations for the Program. A silent auction will also be
provided of items donated by businesses and friends. The silent auction not only
helps raise extra funds but provides entertainment to the riders to enjoy during
their meal.
If you are interested in donating items for our silent auction, we would be most
grateful. What ever you are able to donate is very much appreciated. (Ideas
include, saddle bags, treats, medical kits, halters, lead ropes, saddles, saddle
pads, bags of feed, muck carts, gift certificates, etc.)
The Wright Flight Program is a non-profit organization. Dewayne Burgess, a
retired Air Force fighter pilot, and owner of Roy Frey Western in Topeka, KS,
founded the original Kansas Chapter in 1996. He later encouraged friends in
Missouri to establish a chapter and currently serves as President of the
recently combined Kansas/Missouri Chapter.
This program is designed to use aviation interests to motivate students to
perform at a higher level in school. Students, grades 6-12, must meet two
requirements to be successful in the Wright Flight Program. First, each student
must score a minimum of 85% on an end of course exam for their aviation class.
Second, the student must set and achieve an academic or behavioral improvement
goal. The student’s chosen goal must be specified in a contract provided by
Wright Flight. This contract is then signed by the student, the student’s
parents, and the student’s teacher. When students meet all requirements, the
reward they earn is a flight with a volunteer pilot in a light aircraft. They
even have the opportunity to fly the plane under the watchful eye of a highly
experienced pilot! If the goals are not met, the student is welcome to continue
trying until they do in fact reach the sky. Please visit
www.wrightflight.org if
you would like more information on the Wright Flight Program.
Our goal for this trail ride is to help raise money to offset the fuel costs
accumulated by the pilots volunteering their time and aircraft to reward these
students. All of the resources that are to be used to organize this trail ride
will consist of 100% of donations from wonderful people like you. In addition,
100% of the funds received from these donations will go directly to the purpose
intended. I do hope you are able to support a worthy cause. Thank you in advance
for any and all support you can give this wonderful program. We greatly
appreciate our sponsors and please patronize them!
Call 785-232-0579 (Roy Frey Western) to make your reservations for the ride or
drop off your donation.

Kansas Horse Council – Equine Liability Signs
There are many benefits in belonging to the Kansas Horse Council. Through
your membership we are able to have a voice in the horse industry in Kansas. We
monitor legislative issues that will affect horse owners. Through our
persistence in working towards laws to protect the horse owner, we were
instrumental in getting the Kansas Liability Law passed. You may call the office
for a copy of this statute.
We also offer $1,000,000 in equine liability insurance to anyone who joins the
Kansas Horse Council. When you become a member, this insurance is automatically
yours and protects you from the actions of any horses that you own. This
includes coverage anywhere your horse is, whether on your property or not. Call
the office for more details.
We also sponsor "Equifest" each year which is a three day horse event that
brings demonstrations by world class clinicians to help you further your horse
education. You can also find many horse related products at the trade show from
the many vendors that come from all over the United States. The many different
breeds can be seen during the breed showcase and you can select from the many
stallions that come each year.
Our daughter organization, the Kansas Horse Council Foundation, offers
scholastic financial assistance through a scholarship program. Click on the
scholarship links at the right to get more information about this benefit of
being a horse council member.
Check out the Purchasing Package - a benefit that can save you thousands of
dollars through purchases with participating merchants and dealers. Click the
Purchasing Package button at the top of this page to see more details.
During the year we sponsor trail rides, clinics and other horse-related events.
Please look at our event section throughout the year to see a schedule.
We work year round in the Horse industry and gladly welcome ideas that you may
have for making it better in the State of Kansas. Please feel free to contact a
representative in your area or call the office at 785-776-0662. Go to
www.kansashorsecouncil.com for a membership application.
You can purchase an Equine Liability sign to post in your barn or at your farm
at Roy Frey Western for $25.
