Back in the Saddle Again (literally,
maybe later this month)
Dewayne’s bypass surgery went great, and he is back at the store (for a few
hours each day) with a new lease on life! Dewayne and I greatly appreciated
your thoughts and prayers during his surgery and recovery. We missed seeing
everyone at EquiFest and the NATRC Conference. We are so very grateful to
our great staff for their extra hours covering for us and our neighbors for
taking care of the critters. We are very blessed.

Liz’s Trail Corner
Cashel has put together some great, economical helpers for the trail
riders for this spring. Whether your activity is purely recreational or
serious competition, Cashel has you in mind. Great gift ideas for your
special trail rider! Here is a sampling:
• Tie One On – will supply you with
the saddle strings that your English or Western saddle does not have.
• The Ankle Safe – will give you a
“hands free” way of keeping some important items with you at all times.
• Tush Cushes – check out our large
assortment in various styles. This is Cashel’s leading product.
• Just Rewards – is a neat way of
carrying horse treats.
• The Trail Kit – is a must for the
serious trail rider providing the rider with easy access to trail maps and P
& R cards.
Saw many of these
being used at a NATRC ride.
• Rider’s Rasp – one of Cashel’s
newest and most innovative products. It is a specially designed rasp which
allows the horse
owner to maintain
hooves between professional trims or if a shoe comes off and you need to
smooth the hoof so it won’t tear.
• Other Cashel items include the
Safety Strobe, and several well-designed saddle bags.
• Cashel’s newest innovation is the
Step Up which is a carry along mounting aide.
• We also carry the Cashel Soft
Saddle which can provide the answer to the proverbial “hard to fit” horse.
This is a bareback
pad designed for
recreational use.
Trail riders, we have a good selection of Ariat half chaps, Ariat Terrians, and some great colors available in Troxel helmets. Lucky Bucky has several new tee shirts with great sayings to entertain the riders following you on the trails! Newly arrived are HOOFix Emergency Trail Boots and HOOFix Abscess Kits in case your horse loses a shoe and gets an abscess – a must have to keep in the trailer. Stop by and check out Liz’s Trail Corner before your next ride!

What’s Cooking? - At Roy Frey Western Lifestyles
If you like Southwest flavors, you will really like this casserole. It would
be perfect to take to a covered dish dinner as it serves 8 easily. The
recipe came from the February 2009, Southern Living magazine and was
submitted by Ginny Raska, Brazoria, Texas. It is delicious!
Salsa Verde Chicken Casserole
2 (3.5 oz) bags boil-in-bag rice (I used brown rice)
2 ripe avocados
¾ cup salsa verde
1 (4-oz) can chopped green chilies
1 Tbsp fresh lime juice
2 cups chopped cooked chicken breast
1 (10 ¾-oz) can reduced-fat cream of chicken soup
1 cup light sour cream
1 cup (4 oz) grated Monterey Jack cheese
2 Tbsp chopped fresh cilantro
Topping: chopped tomatoes
1. Preheat oven to 350◦
. Prepare rice according to package
directions.
2. Meanwhile, cut avocados in half. Scoop avocado pulp into a medium bowl,
and mash with salsa verde, chopped green chilies, and lime juice. Stir in
hot cooked rice.
3. Stir together chicken, soup, and sour cream in a small saucepan over low
heat; cook, stirring occasionally, 5 minutes or until blended and slightly
heated.
4. Spoon rice mixture into a lightly greased 13x9x inch baking dish; spoon
chicken mixture over rice. Sprinkle with Monterey Jack cheese.
5. Bake at 350◦ for 30 minutes or until cheese is melted and
casserole is bubbly. Sprinkle with chopped cilantro. Top with chopped
tomatoes.

“Helping Kids Reach New Heights” Sunday, May 24th. The trail ride will
consist of a leisurely 2-3 hour ride, and will be followed by a catered
barbecued pork dinner, which will include door prize drawings, a silent
auction and a spirited live auction featuring lots of wonderful items
including Ariat, Tony Lama, Road Wolf, Muck and Old West boots, Wall
Jackets, Petrol Jeans, Cowboy Magic Products, and a spot for two riders on
the Purina/Better Horses Network Fall Dream Ride!
Wright Flight, Inc. (www.WrightFlight.org) is named after the Wright brothers. Our mission is to use the inherent motivational power of aviation as a stimulus for students to set and achieve higher goals in their educational and personal development. We teach students, grades 4-12, that through commitment and hard work they can achieve the highest goals, including the opportunity to pilot a light aircraft.
Wright Flight, Inc. stresses the importance of education by requiring each student to sign a contract before beginning the program. This contract requires the students to raise a grade point in one of their weaker subjects (i.e. raising a math grade from C to B), in addition to staying in school, off drugs, and out of gangs. If this requirement is not met, even though the student passes the Wright Flight "History of Flight" test, the child is not allowed to participate in the graduation. Once that requirement is met, then the student may experience the graduation thrill of a hands-on flight in a small aircraft as a co-pilot.
The goal for this trail ride is to help raise money to offset the fuel costs accumulated by the pilots volunteering their aircraft, time and money for these flights. In 2007, volunteer pilots flew 124 kids from six different schools. 100% of all donations for putting on the event and funds raised at the event go directly to the Kansas/Missouri Wright Flight Chapter. This event is sponsored by Heritage Tractor, Eisenhower State Park, Better Horses Network, Purina, Osage County Economic Development, Black Eye BBQ and Roy Frey Western. Additional support from individuals and corporations would be greatly appreciated and welcomed.
The Wright Flight Program is a non-profit organization. Dewayne Burgess,
a retired Air Force fighter pilot, and owner of Roy Frey Western in Topeka,
KS, founded the original Kansas Chapter in 1997. He later encouraged friends
in Missouri to establish a chapter and currently serves as President of the
recently combined Kansas/Missouri Chapter.
Registration begins at 9:30 am on Sunday, May 24, 2009. Ride is from 11 am to 2 pm. Dinner and silent and live auction is immediately following the ride. Cost is $35 for ride and dinner; $15 for dinner and auction. Pre-register by April 30, 2009 to win Purina Feed from Heritage Tractor. Ride is limited to first 100 riders. Camping reservations can be made through Eisenhower State Park at 785-528-4102. This event will be held rain or shine.
For more information or to register for the trail ride, contact Dewayne or Jo at 785-232-0579. The new web site www.WrightFlightTrailRide.com will be operational mid- March so that you can download the registration forms. Thank you in advance for your support of this wonderful program!
