Western Sundresses

Western Flip Flops

The hot new look for cowgirls was started by Taylor Swift last year – sundresses with fashion cowgirl boots. Check out our sundresses, short skirts and knit tops – so cute and comfortable for summer events.                 A must have for a great summertime look is a pair
                of bejeweled western flip flops.

New Cowgirl Tuff Jeans & Tees

Cowgirl Tuff Company works hard to bring you the hottest, most up to date fashions. Using the latest and best quality textiles, crystals, and materials, Cowgirl Tuff's signature line is a hand crafted, custom made to order line, manufactured in Litchfield, Minnesota. Fashion forward cowgirls wear Cowgirl Tuff!

Cowgirl Tuff Jeans – Two new styles have just arrived!

"Don’t Fence Me In Dark" – dark spider wash jeans. Three toned overall stitching. Same comfortable fit as the top selling jean in 2009 – “Don’t Fence Me In” with white barbed wire stitching. Matching jean jacket too!

"Ain’t My Day to Care" – ripped and distressed for an edgy look. These jeans feature Cowgirl Tuff’s signature barbed wire stitching on the pockets.

Coming in April – two new styles: "Hippie" – new wash! The Hippie jeans are specially distressed and worn for a vintage look. Same great fit as all our jeans! "Orange Don't Fence Me In" – Orange three toned stitching with barbed wire design. Will be a darker spider wash.

New Western Fashion Jeans

Western Wild

Straw Hats & Short Sleeve Shirt Time

Animal prints – especially Zebra, Leopard and Giraffe – are rocking the western world this year. From tack to boots, be sure to add some western wild to your lifestyle.                                Just arrived for the warmer weather, colorful
short sleeve shirts and straw hats! Get yours
now while the selection is at its best!

Stampede Strings For Riding in the Kansas Wind
If you are going to ride in Kansas, you will need a stampede string on your hat! Roy Frey Western is happy to add a stampede string to your hat – either a felt or a straw. Check out the new Atwood straws with built in stampede strings.

Cowgirls, if you like to ride in a visor, try one of the hair-on cowhide visors with the elastic coil. These visors are heavy enough not to blow off. The elastic coil is so comfortable and can be tightened if needed. I ride in one all the time and love it!

The Groom can outfit his groomsmen in custom shaped hats, frock coats, vests, banded collar white tux shirts, jeans and boots. The cowgirl bride will love wearing a pair of western boots under her bridal gown. Come see us for your special western wedding!

4 New Western Dishware Patterns
What do you call a textured turquoise star in the middle of a deep, rich chocolate plate? – western beautiful! Let me introduce the new Western Star dishware pattern. This plate fits perfectly on a turquoise charger for a striking tablescape. It comes in a set of 16 pieces – 4 dinner plates, 4 bowls, 4 salad plates and 4 mugs.

Western Belt is the newest porcelain dinnerware addition to our home dιcor department – but wait – the dishware set won’t be here until late spring. It is a dark saddle brown base color with an image of a tooled western belt encircling the pieces. It is wonderful! But even better are the accessory pieces – which are here now. I especially liked the baking pans that come with a black iron caddy and lids. The baking pans have oven-save removable silicone handles too! It will coordinate perfectly with the Old West and Barbwire pattern we constantly stock. This new pattern is replacing the Buckeroo stoneware dishware that the manufacturer has discontinued.

New from Montana Silversmith are two wonderful western patterns: Barbwire in saddle brown with rust colored wire trim and tooled leather. Tooled leather is rich contrasting brown tones on an ivory base plate. Both patterns come in a set of 16 pieces – 4 dinner plates, 4 bowls, 4 salad plates and 4 mugs. Both patterns will mix and match with the Montana Silversmiths “Brands” dishware pattern. Accessory pieces are also available.

Equestrian Trails in Kansas
The Kansas Horse Council has published a booklet of all the equestrian trails in Kansas located in the Kansas State Parks, Federal Reservoirs and Public Lands. This great guide sells for $3. Buy 2 – one for the house when you are planning your ride and one to keep in your truck glove compartment. Get your copy at Roy Frey Western.

Weather Lore for April
       • If it thunders on All Fool's Day, it brings good crops of corn and hay.
       • Moist April, clear June.
       • Cloudy April, dewy May.
       • Snow in April is manure.

April Full Pink Moon – This full Moon heralded the appearance of the grass pink, or wild ground phlox – one of the first spring flowers. It is also known as the Sprouting Grass Moon, the Egg Moon, and the Fish Moon.
            – from The Old Farmer’s Almanac (http://www.almanac.com)

Quote for April
"He's of the colour of the nutmeg. And of the heat of the ginger.... he is pure air and fire; and the dull elements of earth and water never appear in him, but only in patient stillness while his rider mounts him; he is indeed a horse, and all other jades you may call beasts."
         ~William Shakespeare, Henry V

Liz’s Trail Corner – April Trail Tip
It's spring and everyone wants to get out on the trail. We all need to do our homework before hitting the trail which includes perfecting the "one rein stop", emergency dismount skills, and establishing a leadership bond with our horses. It's not fair to anyone or any horse to just go out and load up, head for the trail, unload and saddle up and then expect to have a wonderful relaxing ride. Granted some folks get by with that time after time--and that's great. However many horse and rider teams have issues which can be resolved with patience, practice and commitment to realistic goals.

Young horses, green horses and even older horses unfamiliar with trail riding need training on easy trails with relaxed companions and seasoned horses. Being herd animals horses pick up on the reactions of their companions. Confidence can be built with quiet riding buddies both human and equine. If your horse is new to trail riding surround him with those who ride well trained mounts. If at any time you feel his adrenaline rising don't hesitate to get off and do some ground work to re-establish your leadership position. A nervous horse and unsure rider can feed off each other's anxiety causing reactions that can prove to be dangerous for both parties.

Getting your horse accustomed to riding in a group is a good place to start. A large arena is an excellent place to begin. Being observant of your horse's reaction to other riders can avoid accidents on the trail. If your horse is antsy with riders behind you--it might be wise to flag his tail with a red ribbon which should make others aware not to crowd him.

Playing "leap frog" equine style--one horse and rider leading the way and then switching leadership positions will help you and your horse gain confidence in the arena and later on the trail. This activity should help the anxious horse with horses following behind him. Many green horses are more comfortable on the trail in the last position. Mares in particular are often uneasy with other horses following too close behind.

For instruction on the "one rein stop" and "emergency dismount," please refer to the many excellent articles in various horse publications such as Horse and Rider. Their archive is brimming with great articles featuring superb photography.

4th Annual Wright Flight Trail Ride May 30
Come ride the beautiful prairies of Eisenhower State Park, surrounding Melvern Lake, Lyndon, KS on the fourth annual Wright Flight Trail Ride "Helping Kids Reach New Heights" Sunday, May 30th. Riders will enjoy a leisurely 2-3 hour trail ride that will include a poker run. The ride will be followed by a steak dinner, cooked by Josh & Gwen Hoy, Flying W Ranch with side dishes courtesy of Reser’s Fine Foods, door prize drawings, a silent auction and a spirited live auction featuring items including (but not limited to) Montana Silversmith statues; Ariat, Justin, Tony Lama, Muck and Old West boots; Wall Jackets; Carpenter Farm Supply saddle racks; The Hat Doctor hat renovation certificates; Kansas Horse Council liability sign & membership; Flint Hills Leather custom made chinks; riding lessons from Foxeye Ranch, Cindy Branham, Liz Syverson, Bev King, and Jana Dreasher; Bruce Brock pen & ink art, private guided trail rides at Lake Perry, Saddle & Sirloin, Melvern Lake, Flint Hills Bar U Ranch, and KHC Elk City Ride; half day ride and stay for four in bunkhouse at Flying W Ranch; and a spot for two riders on the Purina/Better Horses Network Fall Dream Ride!

Wright Flight, Inc. (www.WrightFlight.org) is named after the Wright brothers. Our mission is to use the inherent motivational power of aviation as a stimulus for students to set and achieve higher goals in their educational and personal development. We teach students, grades 6-12, that through commitment and hard work they can achieve the highest goals, including the opportunity to pilot a light aircraft.

Wright Flight, Inc. stresses the importance of education by requiring each student to sign a contract before beginning the program. This contract requires the students to set an individual self improvement goal, in addition to staying in school, off drugs, and out of gangs. If this requirement is not met, even though the student passes the Wright Flight "History of Flight" test, the child is not allowed to participate in the graduation. Once that requirement is met, then the student may experience the graduation thrill of a hands-on flight in a small aircraft as a co-pilot.

The goal for this trail ride is to help raise money to offset the fuel costs accumulated by the pilots volunteering their aircraft, time and money for these flights. Each year, volunteer pilots fly between 125 and 150 kids from participating schools. 100% of all donations for putting on the event and funds raised at the event go directly to the Kansas/Missouri Wright Flight Chapter. This event is sponsored by Heritage Tractor, Eisenhower State Park, Better Horses Network, Purina, Reser's Fine Foods, Foodcomm International, Flying W Ranch, TFM Communications and Roy Frey Western. Additional support from individuals and corporations would be greatly appreciated and welcomed.

The Wright Flight Program is a non-profit organization. Dewayne Burgess, a retired Air Force fighter pilot, and owner of Roy Frey Western in Topeka, KS, founded the original Kansas Chapter in 1992. He later encouraged friends in Missouri to establish a chapter and currently serves as President of the recently combined Kansas/Missouri Chapter.

Registration begins at 9:00 am on Sunday, May 30, 2010. Ride is from 11 am to 2 pm. Dinner and silent and live auction is immediately following the ride. Cost is $35 for ride and dinner; $15 for dinner and auction. Ride is limited to first 100 riders. Camping reservations can be made through Eisenhower State Park at 785-528-4102. This event will be held rain or shine.

For more information or to register for the trail ride, contact Dewayne or Jo Turner Burgess at 785-232-0579 (info@royfreywestern.com) or Bob and Brandi Lewis at 785-256-4404 (trailhorses@hotmail.com attn: WFTR). Thank you in advance for your support of this worthy program!
