August 18, 2008
Volume 4, Number 16
Hello, Friends!
My family and I had a great time on our vacation to Florida. I did the economics on our go-kart trips; and if we would have refrained from riding go-karts in Florida, we would have had enough money to buy a real nice one when we got home. Really, the 2000 mile round trip to Destin, Florida brought back a lot of memories on our road trips as a kid. Also, I might have pushed the limit with my wife on stops at the Waffle House for breakfast. I didn’t seem to get her hooked on them like I am.
I spent this day getting my information together for the Fall Edition of Better Horses Network. I believe it will be one of the biggest and best issues ever that is packed full of information. This edition will be a great guide for the 2008 American Royal. You won’t want to miss the PRCA Prairie Circuit Finals held Oct. 23-25th at the American Royal. It is going to be a great experience that weekend at the Royal. Along with this great rodeo, you will have the opportunity to attend a great trade show that will have 2 days packed of demonstrations in the Priefert Round Pen. Across the hall from the trade show, our Unbelievable Horse Happening will be going on which will prove to be a great Open Horse Show. This all kicks off on Thursday night, Oct. 23rd, with a clinic by Craig Cameron. Make sure you go to our website at www.betterhorsesnetwork.com and get more information on this event. Our Fall Edition will have the official program for The Unbelievable Horses Happening. If you don’t get one in the mail, check with your Purina Dealership to pick one up.
With September just around the corner, it is full of Equine Stuff to do involving sales, trail rides, futurities, and shows. Labor Day weekend is going to be the site for a great Ranch Rodeo at the Saddle & Sirloin in Kansas City. Make sure you check out the details in this newsletter.
On Friday night, my two sons and I attended the Ranch Rodeo at Beef Fest in Emporia, Kansas. This was a great Ranch Rodeo involving a lot of good teams. It was very exciting to see our team from Chase County, Buck Creek/Lonesome Pine Ranch Rodeo Team come away with winning honors. Congratulations! Randy Peterson, Grady Gibb, Adrian Vogel, and Bud Higgs on a great win!
Don’t forget to join us on our 9th Annual Dream Ride In the Flint Hills this Sept.26-28 at the Flying W Ranch near Cottonwood Falls, Kansas. This ALWAYS proves out to be a great time, so try to join us. We have about 30 spots left.
We are excited to be on a couple of new radio stations with our Better Horses Radio Show. This weekend was Better Horses debut on KMA AM/FM Radio in Shenandoah, Iowa. The stations are 960 am & 99.3 fm on your dials. We air every Sunday morning at 5:05. Also, just a couple of weeks ago, we started airing in the Springfield, MO market at 5:00 am on 92.9 FM Bass Country. We are on these along with about eleven other stations weekly. Make sure you check us out at www.betterhorsesradio.com.
It is getting kind of late, so I am going to let you go for now. Let me know if I can be of any help to you.
Happy Trails!
Ernie

Horse Management Tip
Feeding Guideline Tips:
Always feed a minimum of 1 to 1.2% of your horses body weight in hay or roughage for healthy gut performance. (Example: A 1000 lb. horse should always get 10-12 lbs. hay per day.)
To ensure safe feeding practices, don’t feed more of your horses grain ration than a maximum of .75% of horses body weight at any one feeding. (Example: A 1000 lb. horse should not be fed more than 7.5 lbs. at any one feeding for safe and healthy gut performance.)
Feeding 3 times a day is good practice that will improve efficiency in the horses diet. Although it will improve efficiency, in most cases it is impractical to do.
Be consistent and attempt to feed the same time each day.
Have a great week!
