Volume 4, Number 15
Hello, Friends!
I hope all is well with you, and you are doing your best to stay cool. We left last week for a family vacation and began our trip by stopping by the PFI Western Store in Springfield, Missouri. Randy Little, owner of the PFI Western Store & Saddle City, offered my family tickets for last Friday night to the Liverpool Legends performing at his Theatre in Branson. WOW! What a show; it was truly UNBELIEVABLE! If you are ever in Branson, Missouri, I would strongly recommend you seeing that show. My wife and kids really enjoyed it, and it really brought back a lot of great memories.
Wow! What a weekend for the Jim Holland Family of Bucyrus, Kansas. Congratulations to Meredith Holland, Jim and Michele’s daughter. Meredith was crowned on Saturday night at the Dodge City Rodeo the new Kansas PRCA Queen. She will represent Kansas during the 2009 year. Immediately after the coronation, they left for Fort Worth to watch their son, JD, compete at the AQHA Youth World Championships in Team Roping. I just received a call from Jim to tell me that he captured the World Championship Heeling Horse on his horse Prince and Reserve World Championship Heeling Horse on Pack Rat. JD won the World Championship last year on Pack Rat. Congratulations also to JD!
If there are any Rodeo Fans out there that would like to attend a good PRCA Rodeo this coming weekend, I would strongly urge them to go to Mound City, Kansas this Friday and Saturday. They put a great PRCA Rodeo on with a lot of good tradition. One of those traditions is the barbeque John Teagarden puts on. If you happen to get to the rodeo, stop by and see John and enjoy some of his barbeque.
Make sure you check out our Radio Show, Better Horses Radio, by going to our website, www.betterhorsesradio.com. We recently have been picked up by 92.9 FM Bass Country in Springfield, Missouri. You can catch us every Sunday morning from 5:00-6:00.
We still have room available for our 9th Annual Dream Ride In The Flint Hills on Sept.26, 27 & 28 at the Flying W Ranch near Cottonwood Falls, Kansas. This is a great ride with a lot of good fellowship. Information is on our website at www.betterhorsesnetwork.com and inside on the calendar of this newsletter. Contact either myself at 785/418-6047 or call Suzan Barnes at the Grand Central Hotel at 620/273-6763.
Don’t forget my deadline for advertising in the Fall Edition of Better Horses Network is Aug.15th. If interested in advertising, give me a call at 785/418-6047 or call Connie at 785/418-2615. Plans are to make this issue a guide to what is going on at the American Royal this year. You won’t want to miss the “Unbelievable Horse Happening” going on Oct.23, 24,& 25th at Hale Arena during the American Royal’s PRCA Rodeo and Prairie Circuit Finals. I hope that you can bring your horse or horses down to compete, and then go to a great Rodeo at Kemper Arena that weekend.
I hope to see you around and make sure you let me know if I can be of any
help to you.
Have a great week, and I will talk to you in a couple of weeks.
Happy Trails!
Ernie

Horse Management Tip
TURN OFF THE WATER!
With this being the time that I seem like I am always cleaning a water tank
or filling one up, my wife seems to always ask the question a few hours later,
“Is someone running water?” It seems like more than once I have always
been guilty of forgetting to check and turn off the water and found it running
everywhere.
I learned a tip from Nick O’Dell, a good cutting horse trainer in Fort Scott,
Kansas, and that is to turn your cap around and wear it backwards. This
seems to work in making me aware that something needs to be done and that is,
TURN OFF THE WATER!

Horsey Treat Recipe
Easy Horse Cookies
1 cup grated carrots
1 apple grated
2 tblsps. corn oil
1/4 cup molasses
1 tsp. salt
1 cup rolled oats
1 cup flour
Preheat oven to 350o. Lightly grease cookie sheet. In a
large bowl, mix carrots, apple, corn oil and molasses together. Then fold
in salt, oats and flour until well mixed. Spread dough out in one big
piece on the cookie sheet. Score dough with a knife to make it easier to
break apart after baking. (Or you can roll dough out and cut shapes with
cookie cutters.) Bake for 20 minutes or until brown. Let cool, break
apart and serve.
A very special summer treat . . . for that very special horse of yours!
