| Hello Friends and Happy New Year!
I apologize for being so late -- it seems as though this extreme cold
weather causes everything to start a little slower. I hope all of you had
a very enjoyable Holiday Season and were able to spend some quality time
with your family.
If you are looking to do something in this cold weather, you might want
to head down to the American Royal in Kansas City to attend the Down Under
Horsemanship Tour with Clinton Anderson. It will be Jan.16 & 17 in Hale
Arena. I might have a few tickets available, so give me a call if you
would like to attend. 785/418-6047.
Our 2010 Better Horses Network Stallion Edition will be coming
out the first of February. If you would like to advertise in this
issue, give me a call at 785/418-6047 or email me at
ernie@betterhorsesradio.com.

subscribe by going to
www.betterhorsesnetwork.com or send $10.00 to Better Horses Network;

Horse Management Tip
|
When Extreme Cold Weather Hits
Remember to increase hay during the extreme cold weather. Increasing the
hay is what will increase body heat for the horse.
Also, make sure you keep a good clean water source easily available for the
horse.
When the weather prohibits riding, this might be a good time to clean and
oil your tack to be ready to use.

Horsey Treat Recipe
 |
Horse
Muffins Treat for a Cold Winter's Day! |
Horse Muffins
1 whole apple, finely chopped
1/4 cup water
2 carrots, finely chopped
1/8 cup maple syrup or regular syrup
(if using regular syrup, use a little less)
1 cup cooking oats
Mix all ingredients together in a bowl (the mixture should be sticky but not
very sticky)
Use a muffin or "cupcake" pan and grease it (flouring it is better for the
horses) and put about 1½ spoons of the mixture in
each
compartment. Spread evenly and pack down. Bake for about 10
minutes at 425o. Turn off oven and leave treats in oven.
Do not take treats out of the oven until the oven is completely cool or they
will get mushy!
A special winter treat . . . for that very special horse of yours!
Thoughts
To Ponder

Contemplation and the New Year
A young man, he just thinks. But an old man, when he thinks,
he is supposed to be pondering.
-Will Rogers
Contemplation or pondering is a lot like what those spiritual folks call
meditation (but without the humming). Now taking some time to contemplate
about important things in your life makes sense to me.
When I’m in a pondering mood, I’ll often take a stroll across the back 40
which always has a way of changing my outlook about either personal or
worldly stuff. There I can feel God's work in the trees, the harvest, blue
skies, animal's scurrying about; reminding me to give thanks for all I've
got. It clears one's thinking, answers mindful questions and often times …,
suggests some possibilities I hadn't thought of before.
Contemplation and reflection have a lot in common as they both can deal with
our hindsight and our future sight. I think contemplation deals with
figuring out where we're at, where we're going and what we need to do to get
there. Reflection involves looking at what's been done in the past that's
brought us to this day.
We need to understand just as milk can turn sour, spending too much time
contemplating can turn into procrastination. Procrastinating means
hesitating, failing to saddle up to deal with a problem . . . or opportunity
when it arises. Now this happens because some folks are inclined to circle
the wagons around them, scared of moving out of the safety of that circle.
So don't spend so much time contemplating inside the circle you lose sight
of the horizon; failing to cover the ground you need to before sunset.
So do some contemplating, pondering and ruminating as you plan for the New
Year. Visualize and write down ten doable goals you want to become a reality
in your life; take action and make this year one of accomplishment and
celebration.

Happy New Year! ♫
